According to the police, Jag Pravesh asked people to pay him Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh promising them job as a computer operator. Police found that he had duped at least five to six people of more than Rs 10 lakh.
Police said that on May 12, Sidharth Makwana lodged a complaint at DBG road police station that a man working at DJB, Jag Pravesh had cheated him of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of providing him a job as a computer operator. The complainant also told police that after giving the money to Pravesh, he gave him a fake joining letter. When Makwana tried to contact Pravesh, he could not be found. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and apprehended Jag Pravesh.
According to the police, during interrogation Pravesh revealed that he was working in DJB as a Junior Engineer (JE) on contractual basis since May 2011. However, in June 2014, he was suspended. Taking advantage of his position coupled with his desire to lead a lavish lifestyle, he started alluring unemployed youth that he can get them a job at DJB if they pay him a token amount between Rs 1.5-5 lakh. He further revealed that he gave them fake joining letters. To evade arrest, he changed his address.
Senior police officers of the Central district said that investigation is on to recover the amount which Pravesh accumulated.
