Ex-Congress councillor Devendra Kumar, alias Poni, of the Bawana constituency along with his supporters allegedly thrashed a 70-year-old man, near his house over some construction issue on the Narela-Bawana road in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Thursday evening. Police have kept Devendra Kumar under preventive detention at the Bawana police station while no case has been registered against him, said a senior police official.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 6 pm on Thursday when Devendra Kumar brutally thrashed his neighbour, Jaidev Singh near Singh’s house over some construction related issue. The verbal spat between the two turned into a scuffle when Kumar was joined by his supporters and family members. Police said, that eyewitnesses claimed that Kumar first started the argument and within a few minutes, he was joined by his men. The old man received major injuries and had to be rescued. According to a senior police official, locals made a PCR call after which the local police intervened and took the senior citizen to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital. However, he was later referred to Jaipur Golden Hospital in Rohini where he is still undergoing treatment. The locals said that it was not the first time that Kumar had a scuffle with someone, claiming that he often indulged in such acts to spread terror in the neighbourhood.
