As life has come to standstill due to the nationwide lockdown, television channels are bringing back the nostalgia with the old shows.
Doordarshan recently announced that it will be re-telecasting the mythological hits 'Ramayana' (1987) and 'Mahabharata' (1988) from March 28. "Happy to nnounce that on public demand, we are starting retelecast of 'Ramayana' from tomorrow, Saturday March 28 in DD National, One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm. @narendramodi @ PIBIndia @DDNational," the Information and Broadcasting Minister wrote onTwitter.
To make the 21-day lockdown entertain- ing for people, DD is bring- ing other old classics including Shah Rukh Khan's debut show 'Circus' (1989 ) and the etec- tive drama 'Byomkesh Bakshi' (1993). Besides DD, private televi- sion channels too announced re-telecasting of their popular series, as the shooting for new episodes remains suspended till further notice. Colors channel is reintro- ducing shows like 'Bigg Boss' 'Belan Wali Bahu', 'Bhaag Bakool Bhaag', 'Dil Se Dil Tak', 'Vidya', 'Choti Sarrdaarni', 'ShaktiAstitva Ke Ehsaas Kii', 'Barrister Babu' among others. On the other hand, Zee TV has come up with a new idea of telecasting ALT Balaji's popular web shows on televiion for the first time. Ram Kapoor-Sakshi Tanwar's 'Karle Tu Bhi Mohabbat', Sharman Joshi's 'Baarish', Rohit Roy nd Gurdeep Kohli's 'Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain' will occupy the prime time slots.
Along with its web hits, Zee TV is giving the option to binge-watch episodes of past TV shows such as 'Kumkum Bhagya', 'Kundali Bhagya', 'Kasam Se' and 'Brahmarakshas'.
Another leading entertainment channel, Star Plus is also bringing Hotstar hits 'Rad- haKrihshn' and 'Hostages' on the channel and also planning to telecast the atest movies to keep the audiences hooked. Sab TV, a leading channel for comedy driven series, has announced to re-air its high- est running TRP shows like 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' 'Bhabhi Ji Ghar Pe Hai' and 'Happu Ki Ultan Paltan'.
Besides the TV shows and web shows, music and art lovers can access stand up and solo performances on the artistes' Facebook or Instagramaccounts. Kamakshi Khanna, Prateek Kuhad, Vir Das, Karsh Kale, Indian Ocean (music band) and Aisi Taisi Democ- racy team are among the few names who are regularly updating their social media accounts with new and engag- ing content. Re-running of old classics has come as a relief at a time when the country is witnessing the lockdown.
