English Language Festival held at DPS

Delhi Public School, R K Puram, hosted an Inter-DPS English Language Festival, A Thousand Splendid Suns-2012, under the aegis of the DPS society.

The valedictory function began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The Western choir presented a welcome song. What followed was a mesmerising dance performance by the school dance team on Hallelujah. Principal D R Saini welcomed the guests and students.

As many as 390 students from around 38 schools participated in the festival. Various competitions such as brochure designing, bookmark making, story telling, skit on proverbs, news reporting and turncoat were held on the occasion.

Vishnu Som, the guest of honour and an alumnus of DPS R K Puram, addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of simplicity of language for effective communication. He also highlighted the importance of social sciences and urged students to think of them as a career option. Deepa Agarwal, remarked that the best way to write is to read.

Chairman of the DPS Society, Ashok Chandra, and Director Renu Mital stressed on the importance of such events to promote the love for English language among students.
A slideshow glimpses of various activities held during the day were shown, following which the results were announced by Savita Vasesi.

DPS R K Puram won the Design a Brochure and Skit on a proverb while DPS Noida stood first in Story Telling and Turncoat. DPS Digboi bagged the first prize in News Reporting and DPS Kalinga won the Make a bookmark event.

The festival was a huge success and a great experience for all the students who were there.
