A 22-year-old engineering student on Friday committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her college hostel at ITO in central Delhi.
The victim, identified as Pounami, was a native of Kolkata and was pursuing a course in designing at the School of Planning and Architecture located at IP Estate here. She was staying in the institute’s hostel.
Police said they are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the woman’s death as no suicide note was recovered from the room.
Preliminary inquiries, meanwhile, have revealed that she was depressed after failing to score in three papers in the last semester exams, police said. The incident came to light this afternoon after her roommates found her hanging from the fan when they returned from lunch. “Her roommates immediately raised an alarm and alerted the hostel warden who in turn called the police control room,” a police officer said.
