Technology major EMC has set up a surveillance lab in Bengaluru as it looks to tap into the billion <g data-gr-id="17">dollar</g> global surveillance market, especially in India.

This is EMC's second such facility globally after the US. EMC will offer testing and certification services to organisations in <g data-gr-id="18">Asia Pacific</g> region and help them reduce deployment risk and support requirements through the facility in Bangalore.

"With the government of India's increased emphasis on the development of smart cities, safety has
become a major concern for all the stakeholders. This makes the role of technology extremely crucial, especially surveillance technology," EMC Global Practice Lead Surveillance and Security Michael Gallant said.

In the present scenario, video surveillance has become the largest and fastest-growing component of the physical security industry in India and EMC is looking at tapping that opportunity, he added.  The company did not disclose any investment details. According to a report by IHS Technology, sales of video surveillance equipment is expected to reach $26 billion in 2018, growing two times faster than the overall IT market. Transportation, government agencies and citywide surveillance are the top three users of video surveillance and it is these areas EMC is focussing on, Gallant said.

"As India <g data-gr-id="20">strides</g> towards developing smart cities, the pressure to develop <g data-gr-id="21">scalable</g> and proven security solutions is massive. The Lab offers private security vendors a platform that  is open, flexible, cost-effective and is analytics-ready," he said.
