In order to mark their protest, BJP councillors of East Delhi Municipal Corporation on Friday sat on protest near Delhi Vidhan Sabha demanding special status for the Corporation, regular funds and implementation of the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission’s report on state and municipal bodies’ sharing of revenue. Addressing the protest, BJP MP from South Delhi said that Delhi government is trying to fool the people by saying they have increased the funds for all the three Corporations while the fact is that even after the declared new funds it is Rs 1,500 crore less than the rightful dues as per Fourth Delhi Finance Commission’s recommendations being suppressed by the Arvind Kejriwal government. He said at the time of trifurcation they were promised an outright grant of Rs 451 crore but was never given, instead a loan of Rs 323 crore on interest to be repaid every month were given to them. Thereafter, we have never got any special support despite being earmarked as a loss body.
