EDMC to provide property tax rebate to parents of girl child

In order to encourage education and proper upbringing of the girl child, cash-strapped East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has decided to offer a rebate of eight per cent for parents if their wards are studying in a school run by the East Corporation and five per cent rebate to those who are parenting only one girl child. The civic body has also decided to distribute free school bags to all students studying in Municipal schools along with uniform, books and notebooks.

While announcing the budget for the financial year 2016-17, Standing Committee Chairman, Lata Gupta said: “For the coming year, the civic agency has focused on girl child and women seeking to empower both.” 

Motivating the women in the area, the Corporation has decided to outsource the maintenance of toilet complexes to women, who would also be looking after and developing kiosks in the local neighborhood for their livelihood in the complex area.

Meanwhile, to inculcate healthy habits among students of the Municipal-run schools, the civic agency would distribute toothbrushes and toothpastes. 

The civic agency has also decided to put a blanket ban on illegal animal slaughter and those found flouting the rules will have to pay heavy fines that the Corporation is mulling to increase manifold. 

“The civic body would take stringent action against those found flouting rules and would also levy heavy fines,” said Gupta.

After the city held grand celebrations on International Yoga Day, the civic body is also keen on promoting yoga in its schools, under their Physical Education project.
