Acting on a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah’s “firecrackers in Pakistan” comment, the state election office on Friday sought report from the returning officer on the remark.
“We have sought report from district magistrates of East and West Champaran regarding the remark of BJP president Amit Shah,” Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan said.
The officers have been asked to submit the report at the earliest and the election office would decide action based on their reports. At a rally in Raxual on Thursday, Shah had said that if the BJP lost in Bihar, Diwali will be celebrated in Pakistan. He is said to have repeated the same in another rally at Bettiah, headquarters of West Champaran district the same day.
JD(U), Congress and RJD – partners in the grand secular alliance – slammed Shah for making such a statement. RJD chief Lalu Prasad termed Shah as “mad”.
“Amit Shah has insulted all Biharis, including Hindus, Muslims, Dalits, OBCS by terming us as Pakistani. It has again exposed his mindset for us,” the RJD supremo said before leaving for his nine election meetings on Friday.
