Ten days after the sensational murder-cum-dacoity in Mayur Vihar area, Delhi police’s crime branch has arrested five persons, including two juveniles, who escaped from a correctional home on 6 October.
The five persons are accused of murdering a 35-year-old woman in front of her children and
robbing the house off around 50 kg of silver jewellery and cash.
On 7 November, when Madhubala was at her residence in Mayur Vihar area of east Delhi, two persons knocked at the door posing as courier boys. They strangulated Madhubala and fled with the valuables.
On Sunday, the investigating team got a tip off on the basis of which a trap was laid in east Delhi and a cable operator named Mahesh Gupta was nabbed. After interrogation, Gupta allegedly disclosed the identity of his partners in crime.
The police claimed that on the basis of Gupta’s revelations manhunts were launched at several hideouts and the officers managed to arrest all accused.
The remaining assailants have been identified as Ajay Rai and Narsing Kumar Verma. Two of those arrested were juveniles.
On the pretext of striking a business deal few months back, Narsing took Mahesh to the victim’s house and did a recee of the house.
Meanwhile, around 33 juveniles escaped Seva Kutir after creating a ruckus in the correctional home in October. While 15 of them were nabbed and sent back to the juvenile home 18 could not be traced. Two of them were involved in the Mayur Vihar crime.
The mastermind, Mahesh, was allegedly close to the juveniles. He provided them with rental accommodation on his surety.
‘Two motorcycles, along with two country made pistols, four live cartridges, one dagger used in commission of the crime as well as the 50 kg silver ornaments that were looted have been recovered from their possession,’ Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime), said.
