Taking a lead in simplifying the trade license, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has started issuing simplified trade licenses in its area. According to the corporation, around 10 lakh traders in the city will be benefited by the project, which is likely to be followed by north and south Delhi corporations.

‘The three corporations in the city are committed to simplify the process of trade licensing in the city for the benefits of the traders. The scheme will soon be implemented in north and south corporations,’ said Vijender Gupta, Chief Guest in the function. Earlier, the process of the trades license was very lengthy and hectic so the traders avoid to get the license and run their business illegally in connivance with officers which promoted corruption and loss of revenue to the corporation.

‘The trade license has been simplified by 50 per cent by reducing the number of terms and conditions from 20 to 10. Furthermore, camps will be organised at the door steps of the traders to provide them licenses,’ said S S Yadav, Commissioner East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).

‘The validity period of the license has also been increased from one year to three years,’ added Yadav. He further informed that more camps would be organised on Saturdays in the market areas to facilitate the traders for benefit of the citizens.

‘The simplification of license have received a warm response from traders and over 100 traders visited to the trade license camp organised by the health department among which 20 applied out of whom six were issued on the spot trade license. We are also creating awareness through various means,’ said Mahek Singh, Chairman of the Standing Committee with EDMC. Earlier, only 650 trade licenses were issued in the entire EDMC area.
