East Bengal hold Sporting 1-1, determined Salgaocar comeback

The Flaming Oranje took the lead towards the closing stages of the first half through a spot-kick converted by Dawson Fernandes.

However just when it looked like they had snapped full points, an injury time own goal by Gonzalo Neila helped the Kolkata outfit take a point from the tie. The deadlock was broken when EB’s Harmanjot Khabra was guilty of bringing down Victorino in the box. Dawson took the penalty and slotted it past Abhijit Mondal.

The equalizer came in the fourth minute of the injury time from a Mehtab Hossain free-kick which brushed Gonzalo on its way into the back of the net. Rangdajied United could only manage a 2-2 draw against Salgaocar in an I-Leagu encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Tuesday evening.

A David Ngaite brace was cancelled out by strikes from Claude Gnakpa and Gilbert Oliveira. Rangdajied are still without a win after eight matches and will need to overcome the phase in order to survive.
