Delhi Police, on Tuesday registered an FIR against unknown persons who hacked off the ears and tail of a one-month-old canine in Hauz Khas Village. A man-hunt has been started to identify the accused.
The FIR was registered a day after Millennium Post reported the matter that Delhi Police are being reluctant in registering an FIR in this matter. The matter came to light on Monday afternoon when someone handed over the canine to an NGO with his ears and tail hacked off. Further during treatment, the vet said that the tail was cut two-three days before he was rescued while both his ears were cut with the help of scissors. On Monday, a complaint was filed alleging that some children might have done the cruelty to the canine.
Earlier, there were reports that the children along with other locals residing in the Hauz Khas Village cluster area used to attack stray animals.
“On Tuesday, a case under Section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11.2 of the Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act was filed at Safdarjung police station,” Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police are planning to start a sensitisation program in Hauz Khas Village area to educate the children and other residents to not harm animals. According to sources, initially the awareness program will be started in Hauz Khas Village area after which it will be conducted in other parts of South Delhi.
Millennium Post had earlier reported that attacking stray dogs with knives or bullets is part of the training given to criminals who are yet to debut in the world of crime or done by people to express their violent personality, said Delhi Police and NGOs working for street animals.
The revelation came after a 28-year-old engineering student stabbed three canines outside South Delhi’s Green Park Metro station in March. Later, Nakul Mishra, who was arrested from Lucknow was granted bail by the local court.
