The police said that the victims were employees working with a private university and met with the accident when a speeding vehicle hit their motorbike. The passers-by claimed that the accident took place due to poor visibility. Notably, this was the sixth major accident in the past three weeks due to fog on the Expressway, a high speed corridor connecting Greater Noida to Agra, in which more than 15 people have died while nearly four dozens have sustained injuries.
According to the police, the accident took place after 8 pm near Ronija village at Dankaur town of Greater Noida when the three — Naresh (33), Balraj (32) and Shiv Kumar (27) — were going from Knowledge Park to Dankaur.
The police added that the three working for Sharda University had finished their duty and were on their way home when a speeding vehicle hit their motorbike. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bike was thrown away nearly 30 metres from the spot before hitting the divider. The errant driver of the speeding vehicle fled the spot leaving the victims in a pool of blood.
The accident was reported almost after two hours when a passer-by noticed a call on one of the victims’ cell phones. He answered it and informed the caller about the tragedy. Shockingly, when the families reached the spot, they found the bodies lying on the stretch unattended and no rescue team from Jaypee authority, a company responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the 165-kilometre stretch, or the local police had come to their rescue.
The families called a private ambulance and they were all taken to Naveen Hospital in Greater Noida where they were declared brought dead.
Agitated family members protested at the hospital premises and blocked the Expressway for almost an hour, resulting in a pile-up of 12 vehicles. They claimed that lives of the victims would have been saved if rescue teams had responded on time. Here, it would be pertinent to mention that the stretch had witnessed a similar accident just about 12 hours ago in which two persons had died.
The stretch has witnessed a series of such accidents in the past one month in which more than 15 people have lost their lives.
