The evaluation boycott of first and second years is likely to be called off as the Executive Body of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) may come up with the decision soon. DUTA’s executive meeting will be held on Saturday. However, any proposal of DUTA’s Executive Body needs to get an approval of the General Body (GB) of the association.
“Due to evaluation boycott, the future of thousands of DU students are being rendered uncertain. A section of teachers are against of evaluation boycott,” sources said, adding: “The boycott is only harming the academic calendar and the future of students therefore, it should be ended.”
Earlier, DUTA that was boycotting evaluation and UG admissions in protest against the new University Grants Commission’s norms to ascertain their academic performance on July 5 decided to end the boycott of the admission process.
The decision to join the admission process was also taken by the same Executive Body of DUTA following concerns about the future of students being jeopardised. The agitating teachers had exempted the final-year batch, which is also the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) batch, from the evaluation boycott.
Teachers had been boycotting evaluation of UG examination papers since May 24 in protest against amendments to UGC regulations that, they argue, will lead to job-cuts to the tune of 50 per cent and drastically decrease the pupil-teacher ratio in higher education.
Also, terming it to be an “unethical” mode of protest, students had urged the teachers to end the boycott fearing delay in results.
While the results for graduation final year is out, the delay in the results of the first and second year students will hamper the workload adjustments and calculations. The university has already published its fourth cut-off list but the delay in result of graduation first year and second year is likely to push the academic calendar.
