DUTA, AAD engage in war of words

After the passing of the four-year undergraduate programme by Delhi University, war of words has started between the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) and Academic for Action Development (AAD). AAD has strongly opposed the DUTA general body meeting to be held on 12 May.

Aditya Narayan Mishra, AAD chairperson, said, 'The meeting is unilateral, arbitrary and taken without consulting the DUTA executive'. This can be gauged from an impassioned plea in the form of a formal resolution, duly proposed and seconded, signed by an overwhelming majority of the DUTA executive to review this dictatorial plan of DUTA to have a general body meeting (GBM) on Sunday, without taking the DUTA executive into confidence. It is a desperate decision propelled by political compulsions and not the welfare of the teachers'.

On other hand, Amar Deo Sharma, DUTA president said 'I am bound by the DUTA constitution and my decision has the sanction in point mentioned in page 3 of the DUTA constitution.'

Explaining the constitution, Sharma said, 'I have gone through the constitution and the president can commence a special meeting of the general body whenever he wants, and under this I have given notice to all staff associations and member and executives of DUTA .’

'In the DUTA Executive meeting, Amar Deo Sharma refused to address demand of prioritisation of the DUTA agenda by taking up the 'pressing issues' of more than 4,000 ad-hoc teachers,’ Mishra said.
