DUSU turns to old school, plans to set up complaint box for students

In the digital era of social media, the DUSU (Delhi University Students’ Union) has reverted to old methods and decided to install suggestion boxes in order to ‘reach out’ to students.

Interestingly, the students’ leaders were very active on social media during campaigning for polls. But surprisingly, DUSU has no official website, or an official page on any of the social media handles to connect to the students.

When questioned about why DUSU has no presence on social media, its president Mohit Nagar said ‘If students have problems, they post it on our personal Facebook page.  But we will pursue this in future.’

The ABVP-ruled DUSU has also drawn flak from opposition parties for installing suggestion box to know about students’ problem. ‘They are just fooling students. There are so many issues like hostel problems, bus facilities which are prevalent in university and easily visible. No suggestion box is required to know about these problems’, said Sucheta De, national president of All India Students’ Association.

Meanwhile, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) said complaint box won’t solve the problem.

‘It is still to be seen what will they do for students’ welfare,’ said Amrish Ranjan Pandey, NSUI’s spokesperson.
