After proper scrutiny and submission of documents, Delhi University (DU) has released the final list of candidates for Delhi University Students’ Union election on Friday.
Chief election commissioner Ashok Vohra, ‘If any information regarding violation of the Lyngdoh Committee norms, code of conduct and Defacement Act is found then the Election Commission will take strict action against. If we find any candidate involved in corrupt election practices action will be taken against him/her.’
Talking about the security situation during the elections, Vohra said, ‘In order to ensure sound security, we held a meeting with senior Delhi police officers last month. We will stay in touch with them to ensure that the elections go off peacefully.’
‘We are taking every possible measure to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Two new measures were introduced this year. Firstly, only four students will accompany the candidate to classrooms during campaigning. Secondly, canvassing will take place only between 8 am and 8 pm,’ he said.
Chief election officer has finalised a total of 13 candidates for the presidential post, 12 candidates for the post of vice-president, for general secretary election officer has cleared 17 candidates and for joint secretary 10 candidates have been finalized.
Both the national parties backed student organizations, National Student Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have also finalised their candidates. For the post of president NSUI has fielded Vishal Chaudhary from Rajdhani College. On other hand, ABVP has finalised the name of Aman Awana, who is a student of MA previous, Buddist Studies.
For the vice-president’s post, NSUI has fielded Kapil Sharma from Moti Lal Nehru College, while Utkarsh Chaudhary, a student of Sanskrit (Honours) is ABVP’s candidate for the post.
At the general secretary level, Karishma Thakur of Lakshmi Bai College is NSUI’s candidate. ABVP’s candidate for the post is Anshu Lakra from Kirorimal College.
Kushank Khari from Dayal Singh College, will compete for joint secretary’s post from NSUI, while ABVP’s joint secretary candidate is Raju Rawat, a student of MA (Previous) Buddhist Studies.
