Dubai ruler’s son dies of heart attack at 34

“Today, I lost a best friend and a childhood companion, my dear brother Rashid,” said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. “You will be missed.”

President Sheikh Khalifa declared three days of mourning across the UAE, with flags at government departments and institutions to fly at half mast. Sheikh Khalifa expressed his heartfelt condolences and solace to Sheikh Mohammed.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, also mourned the death of Sheikh Rashid and expressed condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Al Maktoum family.

Prayers will be held at Zabeel mosque on Saturday evening and he will then be buried in Umm Harir cemetery in Bur Dubai.

“God bless the deceased young man... We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return,” the court of the Ruler of Dubai said.

The court said work at Dubai government entities would continue as usual, according to the Dubai Media Office. 

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which regulates the emirate’s private schools, has said schools will remain open.

UAE government institutions, including the Federal National Council, have offered condolences, along with the Ruler’s Courts of the emirates and the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman and the Arab League.

Their Highnesses Supreme Council members and Rulers of the Emirates have also mourned the death of Sheikh Rashid. In Sharjah, the Ruler’s Court has also mourned his death.

His Highness <g data-gr-id="46">Dr.</g> Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah offered his heartfelt condolences and solace to Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid and Al Maktoum family.

The Ras Al Khaimah Ruler’s Court has mourned the death of Sheikh Rashid.

The RAK Ruler’s Court offered its heartfelt condolences and solace to Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid and Al Maktoum family. The RAK Ruler’s Court also prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in Paradise. His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah offered his heartfelt condolences and solace to Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid and Al Maktoum family.

In Umm Al Quwain, His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain has mourned the death of Shaikh Rashid. Sheikh Rashid was known for his love of horses and was a keen football fan. A keen sportsman, he also won two gold medals riding in endurance races at the Asian Olympics in 2006.
