DU to appoint team of officials by month-end

Delhi University Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Yogesh Tyagi has said that his team of university officials, consisting of pro-V-C, dean of colleges, director of South Campus and Proctor, would be in place by the end of this month.

“The search for members for the team of university officials has been set in the motion and it would be formed by the end of this month,” said Tyagi. “Forming a team takes time as it requires selecting members with the ability to discharge duties by maintaining quality,” he added.

According to university sources, the race for the four positions has become interesting with many names cropping up. For the post of pro-VC, the names of Pami Dua, associated with the department of economics, and Sanjay Sehgal, from the department of finance and business, are doing rounds.

Professor Umesh Roy is likely to be part of the V-C’s new team. Roy, who is currently serving as director of South campus, may continue to do so. However, a source from the varsity said: “There is opposition for his reappointment as director of South Campus. Even members of his own department have openly opposed his name.”

V K Chaudhari, associated with the bio-chemistry department of South Campus, is also in contention for the same post.

Professor Tyagi was appointed as the V-C in February and he took charge a month later on March 10. Since he assumed office, teachers had been demanding for the formation of a new team.

DUEC member Abha Dev Habib said: “We are waiting for the new university team as it would set the daily business in the motion. I expect that the V-C’s team will be selected rationally and only those deserving will be added.”
