DU teachers punished for sexual harassment

Four years after two Delhi University female students were sexually harassed by two professors, the Delhi University Executive Council (EC) on Saturday took a decision to  impose heavy penalties on the duo for committing such an act. The EC meeting which was held on Saturday gave its seal of approval on the matter.

The professors who have been punished are P Partha Saradhi, head of the environmental biology department, and Dr Tarkeshwar Gupta, associate professor in the Chemistry department. Sources from DU, who did not wished to be named, said: ‘The council has taken the decision to monthly deduct Rs 40,000 from Dr Tarkeshwar Gupta’s salary for the next eight years and passed the order  that he would not be allowed to take classes of female students. On the other hand, the council has taken the decision that P Partha Saradhi should not be given promotion for the next five years and he too should be excluded from teaching female students also.’
