DU students to teach in municipal schools

Here’s good news for students of Delhi university raring to do something for the society. They could contribute their skills for upliftment of the society and earn some pocket money in the process.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (South DMC) has decided to rope in students of Delhi university to teach painting, sketching, dance, singing, physical fitness, personality development and languages in municipal schools. According to the policy, which is in the pipeline, the students would be provided around Rs 4,000 per month for their service of two hours per day for 16 days in a month.

‘Our main objective is to upgrade the teaching environment of municipal primary schools on par with public schools in the city. These college students would be a great contributors in increasing the confidence of students and also boost the morale of teachers,’ said Satish Upadhayay, chairman of education committee in South DMC. ‘In addition, the compensation will help the students,’ added Upadhayay. He further added that such a move will also prevent brilliant but poor students from indulging in criminal activities.

‘We are sending letters to Delhi College of Arts, Delhi School of Music for engaging their brilliant students. Besides language, environment study, personality development, physical education faculties of Delhi University and various colleges would be approached,’ said Mukesh Yadav, director, press and information of South DMC. In addition to students experts from various colleges of Delhi university and campuses will also be invited to interact with students. The corporation has 588 primary schools with over 4.5 lakh students enrolled in them.
