In a shocking incident, a second year Delhi University student was shot at by unidentified assailants in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old student was taken for treatment to Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Hospital.
According to doctors, his condition was critical. One bullet hit his chest, after which the assailants fled the scene. The victim’s family members took him to a hospital, said the police.
A senior police official said that the victim was identified as Ankit, a student of Swami Sradhanand College of Delhi University. He lives in Narela area along with his family. His father is said to be in traffic wing of the Delhi police.
On Tuesday night, the victim was roaming around the area when he was intercepted by two persons who were on a bike.
‘Before Ankit could understand anything, the assailants opened fire at him. Ankit suffered a bullet shot and fell on the ground writhing in pain, while the assailants rode away,’ said the police official.
The official said the victim was rushed to Sataywadi Raja Harish Chander Hospital and then referred to LNJP after his condition deteriorated.
‘We are investigating this matter. We have collected evidence from the spot and are taking every minute information that is available’, the police official added.
A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of Indian Penal Code has been registered in this respect with Narela police station. The official said they were probing the case from all possible angles. Police suspect personal enmity as the motive behind the attack.
