Expressing deep sorrow over the huge loss of human life and property caused by the flash flood in Uttarakhand, Delhi University has made an appeal to all its employees to donate at least one day’s salary to vice chancellor’s relief fund.

According to the university, the move is ‘A gesture of support and a moral responsibility towards the flood affected people in Uttarakhand. The amount
collected shall be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s
Relief Fund.’

Deputy dean of student welfare Gurpreet Singh Tuteja said, ‘The university shares the grief of the nation and the people who are facing a tough time in Uttarakhand. We will try to extend our help to the people who are fighting there for life.’

Two days back, Delhi University Teachers
Association (DUTA) also expressed sorrow over the destruction caused by the floods and the trauma
suffered by the victims of the tragedy and their
loved ones.

DUTA president Amar Deo Singh said, ‘We will, over the coming few days, take a call on the measures through which we can appropriately contribute to the relief and reconstruction efforts that are being
organised in order to assuage the people’s
suffering in the wake of
this tragedy.’
