Instead of becoming victims of harrasment, Delhi University [DU] girls have decided to take the matter in their own hands. In this regard, they actively participated in the self defence training workshop, held with the help of Delhi police officials, on Thursday.
In the Bharti College, self defence training workshop was organised by the Mission In World [MIW] Foundation for NSS volunteers of the college. The Delhi police personnel conducted the workshop. More than 150 students participated in the programme.
Students learned various self defence techniques, including psychological and legal aspects, as well as the role of police. Judo, karate, and tae-kwon were also taught.
Manpreet Kaur, a participant and a student of B A [programming] first year, said, ‘The right to defend is a right of every citizen. I must ask all girls to wake up and build their confidence. ‘
Kirti Solanki, another participant, said ‘ In the present scenario, it has become necessary for the girls.’
The workshop was a success with college students turning out in large numbers.
Ashish Bhutani, member of MIW, said, ‘This kind of workshops should be conducted not only in Delhi but every state of India.’
Mahabal Mishra, Member of Parliament, was the chief guest on the occasion and he distributed certificates to the participants.
Promidini Verma, Principal, Delhi Police Inspector Omwati Malik and other guests were honoured for their venerable contribution in the workshop.
Verma expressed her gratitude and said, ‘MIW foundation is working for a good cause. We already have been working together and in future, we will cooperate for other noble causes.’
