With a view to check the leakage of revenue, Delhi Transport Corporation [DTC] had launched a special checking drive for six days, which concluded on Saturday, and a sum of above Rs four lakh was recovered by the corporation.
A total number of 34,024 buses were checked during the course of the drive and 2,825 passengers were found traveling without tickets, including 794 Delhi police and government officials.
Officials said 176 cases of over-travelling were also detected and 2,037 compromise fee tickets were issued to the without-ticket passengers. The Corporation had deployed all its officers and traffic supervisory staff across the city for the purpose.
Senior Manager, PR, DTC, Sharat Kumar said, ‘The drive was aimed to plug the leakage of revenue through ticketless travelling, non-issue of tickets by conductors after collecting due fare and overall discipline and behaviour of the bus crew.’
Delhi Transport Minister, Ramakant Goswami said, ‘During the course of the bus crew checking, 142 cases of improper parking on bus stops by drivers and 172 cases of rash driving were also reported. Also, there will be vigil on day-to-day basis’.
The minister added that during the course of drive, there have been registered a remarkable improvement in all spheres, such as polite behaviour of bus crew towards passengers, conductors asking for tickets, announcement of stoppage and destination, proper parking of buses on bus stops, more sensitivity towards disabled, senior citizens and women and so on.
The time-keepers posted at bus terminals and checking staff at bus stops also helped the commuters in getting information regarding bus routes and timings.
As many as 32 conductors were also booked for not asking tickets from passengers and 26 drivers were found driving with open gates. That is not all, 3,203 cases of minor irregularities have also been reported.
Senior officials from DTC said that more such special checking drives will be carried out on regular basis and stern disciplinary action will be initiated against the erring staff.
Sources said within a month, the strength of the ticket checking squad will be enhanced to 1,800 from the existing 1,000.
Meanwhile, on the receipt of the reports against the erring officials, disciplinary cases have been initiated against 1,636 employees so far. The service contract of 19 employees has been terminated, 17 employees have been placed under suspension and three employees have been issued charge-sheet.
