Soon after the incident, a large crowd gathered at the spot and allegedly spread a rumour according to which the deceased, identified as Ashok Kumar Sharma (34), was electrocuted when he stepped on a puddle, which was in contact with a naked wire after parking a bus at the depot, said a police official.
He further said, a PCR call was made around 5.45 am and police reached the spot immediately. Soon Kumar’s body was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brough dead.

However, once the body was taken to the hospital it also emerged that Kumar wasn’t electrocuted. ‘It seemed more like he was about to board a bus and accidentally stepped on a puddle. He slipped and fell down which might have injured his head and caused an internal injury that later led to his death,’ said the police official. He further said, there are also chance’s of Kumar having a cardiac arrest after the fall. Things shall become clearer once we get the postmortem report. ‘But it is a clear case of natural death hence no case has been registered,’ the official added.

The Millennium Bus Depot, situated in south-east Delhi, is spread across an area of 60 acres and accommodates around a thousand DTC buses under properly constructed sheds. It is the largest bus depot in the world, having overtaken the Tel Aviv’s Central Bus station in Israel in the year 2010.
