The accident had taken place after a Maruti Swift ran over a police team towing away a crashed dumper on the high speed carriageway connecting both cities. The accident caused the death of three persons; two of them being police officers as five others sustained grievous injuries, including the DSP who was posted in Greater Noida.
As per the reports, Dr Harendra Singh, a 2006-batch PPS official, breathed his last on Saturday night. Singh, who was admitted at Jaypee hospital in Noida, was battling for life. The hospital officials had informed that Singh (37) was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was kept on ventilator support. The officials had also said that the DSP had suffered severe head injuries and had fractured several ribs, which were causing complications. “Singh succumbed to his injuries late on Saturday night. His last rites were performed at the District Police Lines in Surajpur,” said Preetinder Singh, SSP of Noida adding that Singh had recently been transferred to the Gautam Budh Nagar district and it was his second posting. A resident of Azamgarh in UP, Singh used to live with his wife, a doctor, in Noida.
The incident had occurred in the middle of the expressway. The cops were on their job to clear the expressway, when a speeding Maruti Swift car, driven by a 23-year-old man, Yash Agrawal, hit the cops. The car had rammed into the crane, used for removing a stuck truck from the expressway. Following the accident, three persons died on the spot leaving five others injured. The deceased were identified as Mohan, Balraj and Yash Agarwal. Mohan was the gunner of the DSP and Balraj was a traffic policeman.
