According to sources, it is also expected that soon CBI will also be asked not to file charge-sheets in the 2G scam till the time allegations against Sinha are decisively taken care of and the matter is resolved.
The bench headed by CJI R M Lodha on Friday heard the coal scam batch of applications and adjourned the hearing till 17 October. It may be noted that by the said date, the bench headed by CJI Lodha would have changed due to his retirement next week.
The 2G matters are before Justice H L Dattu, who is slated to take over next week as the Chief Justice. Since the applications are similar in both scams, the new coal scam bench will wait for the decision of the 2G bench. Earlier, the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) - represented by Prashant Bhushan - in a petition filed before the Supreme Court on 2 September - claimed that the visitors’ entry register at Sinha’s residence was ‘very disturbing’ and contained ‘explosive material’.
Bhushan, then handed over the visitors’ register kept at Sinha’s official residence to the apex court and requested for a thorough probe. Later the allegation was countered by the CBI chief and he claimed that 90 per cent of the content in the visitors’ dairy was fake. To ascertain the authenticity of the diary, the 2G bench headed by Justice Dattu has asked Bhushan to reveal the name of the whistle blower who obtained the incriminating documents before proceeding further.
