An 11-year-old domestic help working in South-East district was rescued by a neighbour, after she was allegedly beaten up by her employer, 25-year-old Alia Raza. Alia has been accused of brutally beating up her minor domestic help on several occasions.

Alia, who is from Bihar, has been residing in rented accommodations in Nizamuddin Basti, while pursuing her MBBS from a reputed college in the capital. On 15 July, Alia locked up her domestic help in the bathroom and went to her native place in Bihar. The 11-year-old allegedly remained locked up for three days.

‘One of the neighbours heard the maid’s shouts for help and broke open the locks of Alia’s residence. Begum, the neighbour who saved the servant, found her locked in a bathroom in a critical condition. Her eyes were swollen and she was bleeding. Begum then, alerted the local police station,’ an official said.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Begum said,  ‘Tears filled my eyes when I saw the girl in that condition. I am amazed how an educated lady could commit such a crime. The victim is very young and I always seen her hard at work. Alia never spoke to any of us, she maintains her distance. The other neighbours and I have seen Alia beating up the girl for small mistakes several times. If we ever tried to stop her, she would blame the girl and say that she is careless and not good at her work, that instead of being a help, she was a trouble to her.’

After the domestic help was rescued, she was taken to the Nizzamuddin Police Station in South-East District. No case has been filed yet, but a medical examination has been carried out. The injury marks on the servant’s body are also easily visible. Police is trying to track down Alia.

Speaking to the media, the victim said, ‘ I was not given food to eat or clothes to wear. Madam (Alia Raza) would beat me without any reason. She was always on the phone and if she was upset about something, she would taking it out on me, hitting me with whatever she could lay her hands on. If I screamed, she would beat me harder. I wasn’t allowed to contact my family or communicate with the neighbours,’ said the victim. She added, that she was an only child and had taken up work as a domestic help to help her family. ‘I want to study, I want to live, I want to fly, but I think they will always remain dreams,’ she said.
