Domestic help beaten up with brick for asking for her salary

A girl who used to work as a domestic help at a house was badly beaten up by the owner. Having worked for there for the last fourteen years, the victim was beaten up for demanding Rs 250, which was due as her salary.

The incident occurred at Tutbari area of Malda. Police said that the victim Golapi Haldar had been working at the house of one Somenath Agarwal. A few days ago, she had quit.

On Sunday morning, she went to Agarwal’s house and asked the family to pay the due amount of Rs 250. However, a quarrel broke out between her and the Agarwal family members.

One of the members, Raju Agarwal, hit her on her head with a brick, causing the victim to receive severe injuries on her head.

The local people soon found her and rushed her to a nearby hospital. They told police that the family had denied to pay the amount and this triggered an altercation.

Locals said that the victim girl, who had worked as domestic help in that house for several years, had asked for her hard-earned money. But the family members told her that they had already paid her all the dues. 

The victim tried to convince the Agarwal family members that Rs 250 was due. The family members, however, denied to accept what she said and became abusive.

She was immediately taken to a hospital where she has been undergoing treatment. Doctors in the hospital said that the nature of the injury is serious. Local people staged demonstration in front of the house of Agarwal demanding strong action against the accused. After being informed, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
