DMRC likely to miss deadline for completion of Phase-III project

Authorities are likely to miss the March 2016 deadline for the completion of Delhi metro’s Phase-III project due to the slow pace of construction. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is yet to get land for several metro stations and utilities.

According to the DMRC officials, concerned agencies have been delaying the process for Badli metro station, Rajouri Garden metro station, Vinod Nagar depot and Trilok Puri corridor. The land transfer process is running behind schedule by a year.

Sources further said that delay in clearances from various government and nodal agencies could delay the project. These include clearances from the National Monuments Authority as well as issues over land acquisition for the Vinod Nagar depot. The construction of the Vinod Nagar depot is also in question, as it will come up on notified forest land.

Civic authorities are yet to clear hurdles for the construction of metro corridor passing through Trilokpuri.  Relocation for thousand local residents has not yet been done. Earlier it was reported that DMRC will construct new houses for 1,000-odd residents on an alternate plot in the same area. The land measuring 8,000 square meters belongs to Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and this will cost DMRC Rs 1.88 crore per acre. Land for two metro stations, Badli and Rajouri Garden, should have been given to DMRC last year. However DMRC is yet to receive land for the project.

‘We are in constant touch with concerned authorities to get land for the Phase-III project. We are hoping to get land as soon as possible to complete the project before its deadline,’ said a DMRC spokesperson.
