The Delhi Jal Board has joined hands with Delhi Transport Corporation for rain water harvesting and water conservation. The DTC will provide the space for advertisement to the DJB on the routes of South, South-West and West Delhi where the ground water level is very low. ‘The DTC buses are a perfect way to advertise about the tips of rain water harvesting and water conservation. We will selectively put advertisement explaining all simple procedures to save water on the buses plying through the worst affected areas,’ the DJB said in a statement.
The messages on the advertisement will incorporate the recharge of tubewells, rain water harvesting, fixing of leakage and encouraging people to save water for Saturday.
‘Initially, the buses with DJB’s advertisements will ply through these areas for two months. It is expected that the advertisements will directly convey the message to the primary target audience which are its daily commuters,’ the DJB said.
‘Through this campaign, the DJB will also promote judicious use of water in order to ensure that the demand and supply gap during summers is maintained. The current campaign carries Jal Dost, which is the DJB’s mascot, talking about key issues which can help in water conservation,’ the DJB added.
The board has also launched a helpline number 011-23558264, for people who need technical assistance in rain water harvesting at their properties. More details for water conservation are also available at DJB’s website www.delhijalboard.nic.in.
‘The ground water level in Delhi is depleting at an alarming rate. We urge Delhiites to come forward and help us in water conservation,’ said a DJB official.
