The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has commissioned its newly constructed 5.8 million litres (ML) capacity Underground Reservoir (UGR) and a booster pumping station at Narela. This has been possible because of commissioning of the Bawana Water Treatment Plant, recently. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 26 crore.

DJB claimed that the commissioning of the UGR has benefitted around 1.15 lakh people living in the villages of <g data-gr-id="30">Khampur</g>, Bakoli, <g data-gr-id="31">Hamidpur</g>, <g data-gr-id="32">Singhu</g> Singhola and colonies adjoining these villages. “With the commissioning of the UGR, the residents of the area have started getting water with enhanced pressure,” said a senior officer of DJB.

Keeping in mind the extreme heat, the DJB staff had worked overnight to ensure that the UGR was in place quickly. Earlier, water used to be supplied in the area through tube wells. The pressure used to be low and the supply limited.

“DJB, with its limited available raw water, has been looking to bring about equitable water management through optimum utilisation of its resources, to ensure that maximum population is covered through the water distribution network of the Delhi Jal Board,” said a DJB official.

RS Tyagi, a member of the Delhi Jal Board has said that the DJB is working hard to increase the water production and its equitable distribution in the city by commissioning of all UGRs and booster pumping stations and redistribution of water by displacement so that it reaches every house in the city.

It will bring a major relief to the people of the area who were dependent on tankers for their water needs.
