The extent of indecisiveness and differences in the city BJP can be gauged from the fact that the crucial elections committee which was constituted 46 days back to shortlist and finalise candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections has not managed to have even a single sitting so far.
Meanwhile, the party has missed two deadlines to declare its list of candidates for the 70 assembly constituencies in the city which will go to polls on 4 December.
According to highly placed sources, the main reason behind this delay is the dilemma of the party with regards to the name of its chief ministerial candidate.
The party has taken a lead on ruling Congress with the announcement of the 24-member election committee including, seven invited members and 54 member election core group, which includes all prominent faces on 25 August.
Announcing the formation of the committee, city BJP president Vijay Goel had promised to declare the first list of candidates by 15 September and the last list by September end.
The party took refuge behind Narendra Modi’s rally in the city on 29 September to miss this deadline and said the list will be declared after the rally. ‘There is no development in finalising the list,’ said a member of the election committee on Thursday.
‘There is no information of any meeting of the election committee during this week,’ he added.
Party sources said, the BJP is in no position to declare the candidates list in near future. ‘The list may be declared either by the end of October or by next month,’ said a senior leader of the party on condition of anonymity.
The party, according to sources, is not sure on whether it should go to polls without declaring the name of the chief ministerial candidate.
