Now, discoms in the city will not be able to enhance your sanctioned load arbitrarily but pay Rs 500 fine if failed to reduce your sanctioned load within a specified period. In a major decision to provide relief to power consumers in the city from the arbitrary hike of sanctioned load, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) on the direction of the Delhi government, issued policy guidelines on Friday applicable with immediate effect. “The discoms shall take the highest of average of maximum demand readings recorded as per billing cycles covering any four consecutive calendar months in the previous financial year. Further such average will be rounded off on the lower side. Earlier method of taking average of any three highest maximum demand readings in a year was not consumer-friendly,” said a senior official of Delhi government quoting the order of DERC. On complaints of several consumers, the power department had issued policy guidelines to DERC as per Section 108 of the DERC Act in 2013.
