Terror suspect Sameer Sardana, arrested by Goa ATS from Vasco and released on bail last week, has dismissed the police’s claims that he had converted to Islam and visited Muslim countries.
The 44-year-old son of a decorated Army Major General also rubbished the ATS’ claim that he had downloaded information on his laptop about making bombs and bomb blasts that had taken place in the country in the past. “I never went to any of the Muslim countries. I have travelled to Combodia, which is a Buddhist nation and Vietnam, which is a communist country. The information provided by the police to the media that I have got converted into Islam is not correct,” said Sardana.
The ATS had earlier claimed that Sardana had worked for MNCs like Accenture with postings in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia and was found with one laptop and five passports. Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar had also confirmed that Sameer had visited several Islamic countries. A Goa court had last week granted conditional bail to him after the prosecution said he could not be linked to any militant group.
