Devyani case: India sets up special group

Update: 2013-12-30 00:38 GMT
With India determined not to relent on its demand for the US to formally apologise on the handcuffing and strip-search of its envoy Devyani Khobragade, a special group of experts, including in international law, would be meeting on Monday to discuss the case. The meeting of the group of experts, set up by foreign secretary Sujatha Singh, is indicative of India’s firm resolve to pursue the matter to the end, said sources. Meanwhile, India’s unusual tough stand on the arrest of its diplomat Devyani Khobragade has forced the US to initiate an ‘inter-agency review’ to look into the lapses that happened in the high-profile case that triggered an uproar in India and strained bilateral ties. The US departments involved in the review include the National Security Council of the White House, the State Department and the Justice Department. There was a ‘judgemental error’ in handling this case,  the panel  tacitly ‘admitted.’
