Development a priority: Tejashwi

The Bihar Assembly poll results brought cheer to the family of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, whose sons made a victorious debut.

Yadav’s sons – Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap  –secured big wins in Raghopur and Mahua constituencies.

Tejashwi defeated BJP’s Satish Kumar, who had switched sides to the BJP, after  Raghopur seat went to RJD under the seat-sharing formula, by 22,733 votes. Raghopur seat has been won by both Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi in the past, while Tej Pratap trounced HAM(S)’s Ravindra Ray by 28,155 votes in Mahua.

After the grand alliance romped home in Bihar polls, Tejashwi said “development” would be the new government’s priority in the state. “We will take Bihar on the developmental path and ensure that the state becomes a model one,” he said. Tejashwi also thanked the people of Bihar for voting the grand alliance to power.

Tejashwi, however, refused to say anything on his likely role in the next government led by Nitish Kumar. His brother Tej Pratap is widely seen as Yadav’s successor in the RJD.
