The NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) has pulled up authorities for failing to provide compensation to the parents of a five-month-old child, who was crushed under the car of a CPWD contractor at a construction site in a Delhi University college. The commission noted that instead of giving monetary relief to the aggrieved parents, they were thrown out of the job the next day of the accident.
Expressing its dissatisfaction over the reports of different authorities to whom it had issued notices, the commission has again asked them ‘to provide specific inputs related to their responsibilities in the matter’. The commission took suo-motu cognizance of the accident and called for reports from the DU, RLA College, CPWD and Labour Department. It also noted the labours at the site were being paid less wages in violation of the law. It has asked the authorities to get the site inspected under relevant laws and submit the report. It has also sought report into dismissal of the services of the parents.our correspondent
