Deploy more teams to deal with consumers’ plaints, says Jain

Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday directed the three private power distribution companies (DISCOMs) to immediately deploy additional breakdown/maintenance teams to minimise the complaints of electricity consumers in Delhi.

He also directed the top officials of the three DISCOMs to reduce the fault attending time and also to deploy mobile distribution transformers as and when required for quick restoration of electricity supply in areas from where disruption problems are being reported.

Extreme heat wave conditions have already resulted in a record high consumption of electricity which increased from 6,044 MW on Thursday to 6,188 MW on Friday. Jain directed the DISCOMs to immediately strengthen their call centres by doubling the existing capacity by suitably enhancing the telephone lines and deploying more personnel so that each and every call is registered for its proper resolution.

The government also said that a serious action will be taken by the power department in case the DISCOMS resort to unreasonable excuses for loadshedding.

“DISCOMS should ensure that consumer helpline numbers are active and these should be adequately reinforced to meet additional calls being received from consumers in the current scenario,” the power department has stated.

The DISCOMS have also been directed that in case there are valid and justifiable reasons for loadshedding, then “it should be ensured that such loadshedding at any level of shortage does not exceed one hour at a stretch and should be strictly on rotational basis in different areas and not only in slums and JJ clusters.”

Power department has been directed to seek three hourly status and daily reports from the DISCOMs about the consumer complaints and their redressal, and to review the status regularly for ensuring round the clock power supply.

The DISCOMs informed that they have adequate tie-ups with electricity generating companies to meet the growing demand.

DISCOMS also informed that there are no system constraints at the transmission and sub-transmission level. However some local faults have been reported at the distribution level in some areas either due to overloading of distribution transformers or due to failure of LT feeders.
