“The arrival of a Pawan Hans helicopter for aerial surveillance over Ghaziabad and Noida has been stalled as US security agencies have denied permission,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said.

The UP government had decided to provide a chopper to the authorities for aerial surveillance in Ghaziabad and Noida. But Pawan Hans Ltd. could not procure NOCs from various authorities for its chopper to be used by the Ghaziabad Police, the officer added.

An unprecedented security arrangement has been put in place in and around the national capital in view of US President Barack Obama’s visit. As part of the security measures, no plane will be flying within a radius of 400 km of the Rajpath as against 300 km on earlier occasions.

This means airports adjoining Delhi like Jaipur, Agra and as far as Lucknow or Amritsar may not operate flights when the Republic Day function will be on in the national Capital.

It may be noted that the state government had earlier announced to keep a strict vigil through air in bordering Ghaziabad and Noida in the wake of Republic Day celebrations and has provided a helicopter to the police department for the purpose.

“The chopper has been provided for a period of 12 days, starting from January 20 to January 31,” Dharamendra Yadav, SSP of Ghaziabad had said.

Air surveillance had announced mainly to target the movement of VVIPs, special areas and buildings like ordnance factory, gas plant, malls, educational institutes, cinema halls, and other sensitive areas.

The police of both the districts had also carried out mock anti-terror drills and other exercises for the purpose.
