Update: 2013-10-01 23:29 GMT
In a shocking case of medical negligence, doctors of Ram Manohar Lohiya (RML) Hospital issued a death certificate to a girl (name withheld), who had been discharged after being treated for dengue on 21 September.

The 12-year-old girl is a resident of Nangloi area in Delhi.

A senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation on the condition of anonymity said, ‘Doctors of city the hospital had issued death certificate to the girl who is alive.’

‘When we went to her residence to cross-check the details, we found that the girl was not dead. This is a deliberate ploy of the state government which wants to defame the civic agencies for the rising number of dengue deaths,’ the North DMC officer alleged.

The girl was reportedly admitted to the hospital on 17 September. She was later discharged on 21 September after her treatment.

Interestingly, the hospital marks the date of death as 21 September.

When asked for an opinion, HR Kar, medical superintendent of Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital, said, ‘Nothing like this has been reported according to my information. We have only two serious patients in our Dengue ward. All this is fake.’

Azad Singh, mayor from North DMC, said, ‘This is a huge mistake made by the hospital management. We have the documents and reports issued by the hospital to our agency. Our officers visited the girl’s home after receiving the news.’

Meanwhile, NK Yadav, municipal health officer said, ‘The number of dengue cases in the national capital climbed to 2,124 up from 1,729 reported last week, an official said. There were no new deaths. There are a total of 2,124 cases and three people have died from dengue so far this year.’
