The cases of dengue in Delhi have crossed last year’s record. As per the cases reported by the nodal centre of dengue and malaria, so far, 325 cases have been reported in Delhi, which were only 323 in 2011 for the same period and more than three times than in 2009.
In the meeting of EDMC, Congress councillors alleged that Kapil Mishra, son of EDMC mayor Annpurana Mishra, is suffering from dengue but his name is not on the list. On which, commissioner S S Yadav replied that the case was not confirmed and his platelet count might be low due to some other disease.
‘We will soon start SMS campaign to spread awareness among the people about the preventive measures for dengue and instructions will also be given to school students during prayer and assembly,’ said Sajjan Singh Yadav, Commissioner, EDMC, in the meeting of Standing Committee on Thursday.
On Thursday, 32 fresh cases were reported in which 8 were from NDMC, 15 from SDMC and 7 from EDMC. So far, 126 cases have been reported from NDMC, 128 from SDMC and 59 from EDMC. Only five cases of the 325 dengue cases are from neighboring states, which were 8 last year. The maximum cases, so far, have been reported from south Delhi, which are 43.
35 FRESH CASES
Thirty-five fresh cases of dengue, the highest for a single day this season, were reported in the capital on Thursday, taking the total number of those hit by the virus to 298. Of the 35 new cases, two cases were reported from NDMC areas in the capital while the others were reported from South, North and East Delhi municipality areas. Except Narela and Sadar Paharganj, all the other zones in the city reported fresh cases today, according to figures from all three MCDs.
Out of the 298 cases, four cases have been reported from outside Delhi. A nine-year-old girl died due to dengue last month. Last year, the capital saw 216 cases of dengue, including eight originating from outside, and three deaths. In 2010, there were 4,108 cases, including 24 from outside, and five deaths while the figures for 2009 were 29 dengue cases but no deaths.
