Delhi’s experiment with AAP proving to be costly: Jaitley

Update: 2015-05-20 00:25 GMT
Jaitley on Tuesday, while addressing a meeting of party’s state executive, called Delhi’s experiment with Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) a costly one.

Speaking to a houseful NDMC Convention Centre near Jantar Mantar, Jaitley said, governance is not AAP’s political agenda.

“Delhi is not difficult to govern as it does not face the kind of challenges other states do like Chhattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir,” said Jaitley adding BJP-governed Madhya Pradesh is an example of how a state can be turned around.

“AAP has such a huge mandate, they must understand their responsibility and that people want governance, not controversies and disputes,” he said referring to the latest clash between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

“The people of Delhi did a very costly experiment. To run the government is the political agenda of people who came to power. Whatever has happened in the last few months show that the coming months will be very troublesome. The government in Delhi should run smoothly and also should understand their responsibility as they got a huge mandate,” said Jaitley.

AAP hits back at Jaitley barbs
The AAP on Tuesday hit back at Arun Jaitley for his comments that the people of Delhi were now paying the price for electing the party to power, saying that it exposed the BJP’s “deep frustration” and anti-democratic stance. Taking a jibe at Jaitley, senior AAP leader Ashutosh said the man who had lost badly in Amritsar should not bother about Delhi since they will never understand the city.

“The country is suffering from the experiment done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by making him (Jaitley) the Finance Minister, who lost so badly in Amritsar,” Ashutosh said. The AAP leader said BJP has failed to understand Delhi and in coming years, it will disappear from the city.
