NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have cracked the case of the murder of a 72-year-old woman in Khyala in north west Delhi and have arrested a youth named Subhash.
On August 6, around 8.55 pm, an call was received at Khyala police station through PCR about the murder of an elderly woman in Khyala village.
Personnel from the station, including senior officers, rushed to the spot to find that the deceased was one Laxmi Devi, wife of Uttam Chand, had been living alone at the house since her husband passed away nearly 25-30 years ago.
The complainant Vinod Kumar was the nephew of deceased and resides adjacent to the Laxmi Devi's house.
Based on Kumar's statement, a case of murder and robbery was registered.
Police teams were formed to work on different angles in the murder case.
It was also found that some jewellery was stolen from the house.
Several persons were interrogated at length, and soon, based on credible information, cops established that a youth by the name of Subhash, alias Gaurav, had been seen roaming near Laxmi Devi's house of deceased under suspicious circumstances on the day of incident.
This gave cops reason to believe Subhash was the prime suspect and he was immediately apprehended.
"During sustain interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He had murdered the woman by stabbing her multiple times with an ice pick. After killing her, he ransacked the house and robbed valuables including jewellery and other articles," said Milind Dumbere, DCP. North West.
The accused is reportedly a drug addict and unemployed.
Initially, his plan was only to rob the house. But out of fear of being identified, he murdered the woman.
