New Delhi: A woman, in her 30s, was shot at by suspected snatchers after she resisted their attempt to snatch her chain in north Rohini, the police said on Sunday.
The incident happened on Friday when the victim had gone to the market. Her husband is a doctor who has a clinic in Rohini Sector 5. The woman was chasing one of the bike-borne men and sought help from passersby but no one came to help her since the accused was carrying a firearm, the police said. After firing at her, the accused pushed her with his leg and fled from the spot.
The victim, Priyanka Goyal, a resident of Avantika in Rohini, had stepped out to buy groceries in the Sector 6market. While she was walking on the road near Vishram Chowk, two bike-borne men came from behind and one of them snatched her gold chain, the police said. After snatching the chain, the accused sped away from there but Goyal followed him and tried to catch hold of the collar of the pillion rider. He fired in the air to scare her but that did not deter her. He even hit her with the pistol butt and threatened to fire at her, the police said.
Goyal also asked for help from passersby but they did not come to her rescue. He shot her in the leg and the duo fled from there with her gold chain. The police were informed and she was rushed to a hospital where her condition is critical, they added. The accused duo was not wearing helmets. Police are scanning the CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused.
In August, a woman was grievously wounded when she fell off a running auto while trying to save her purse from motorcycle-borne snatchers in north Delhi.
