GREATER NOIDA: A mother and daughter duo was stabbed to death at their residence in G-block, 11th avenue, in Gaur City-II in Greater Noida West, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Anjali Agarwal (41) and Manikarnika (10), a student of Class VI. Police said the double murder took place on Monday night.
Police are currently searching for the woman's 15-year-old son, who has been missing since the incident.
The incident came to light after Anjali's husband Soumya – who had gone out of town for work to Surat in Gujarat – asked his relatives to check on his family, as they were not answering his calls since Monday morning.
Soumya Agarwal, who works as a tiles dealer in Noida's Barola area, told his cousin identified Virat that his wife had not been answering his calls.
When Virat reached the spot, he found the house to be locked.
After there was not response despite his repeated knocking, Virat called the cops.
A police team rushed to the spot and broke a window pane to enter the house, only to the mother-daughter duo lying dead on the bed and wrapped in blood-soaked quilt.
Sources said a cricket bat laced with blood stains was also found near the bodies. A sharp object was also found at the spot.
"It seems like the accused did not come with the intention of robbery. The reason behind the murder is being investigated. Initial investigations showed that the woman and daughter were hit by a sharp weapon, while a cricket bat with blood on it has been found from the spot," Love Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar, told reporters.
"The son of Agarwal's, a Class X student, is the prime suspect, since he was captured in the CCTV footage while leaving the house. He was also present at the house and no one entered or exited from the flat except him. The boy is absconding and police have launched manhunt to nab him," said Ajay Kumar Sharma, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.
Neighbors said that six people lived in the house.
The elderly parents of Soumya Agarwal had gone to Uttrakhand to attend a marriage function, while was in Gujarat.
"The mother, daughter were last seen at 8.15 pm on December 4," said one of the neighbours.
