Greater Noida: A 25-year-old woman, working as beautician at a unisex salon in Knowledge Park-II area of Greater Noida, was allegedly thrashed with sticks and dragged by hair by a group of men, including her employer, in broad daylight and in front of nearly two dozen people. Cops have arrested the owner of salon in connection with the case.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday morning in Kaushalya residency area of Knowledge park.
The victim, a resident of Phase-II area of Noida, had been working at Venus Unisex salon from the past two months, said police officials. The woman was brutally thrashed in front of a crowd while a video of the whole incident was captured by an onlooker which went viral.
In the video, it can be clearly seen that nearly four men were beating her up with sticks and she was dragged on the road with hairs by the mob. A few passerby also came to her rescue but the accused were seen thrashing even them.
Later, the victim reached Knowledge park police station for lodging a complaint with police when she alleged that the salon owner refused to pay her salary and instead tried to coerce her into a physical relationship with the owner.
Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar said that a heated argument broke out between the employer and the girl when she demanded her salary.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was not paid her salary for the month of April for which she had insisted her employer several times. On Saturday morning, the girl had gone to the salon and demanded her salary. An altercation broke out between them, following which her employer along with three other men started thrashing the girl with sticks and she was pushed to the ground," said Jaiswal.
"Based on the complaint filed by the victim, an FIR under sector 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of Indian Penal Code has been registered at knowledge park police station of Greater Noida. The girl has been sent for the medical examination, reports of which are awaited," added Jaiswal.
Meanwhile police have arrested an accused who was named in the FIR.
"Police have managed to arrest the owner of the salon who has been identified as Wasim ,a native of Sector 12 in Noida, while further investigations into the case are underway," the officer said.
A senior police officer from knowledge park police station said that the whole dispute involved an exchange of Rs 17, 000 which was being demanded by the woman as her salary.
