Vigilant security personnel ensure smooth polling

Elaborate security arrangements were seen at polling booths across Delhi, with Delhi Police personnel, along with the paramilitary forces and Home Guards standing on vigil to ensure peaceful conduct of the Municipal Corporation polls.

There were 13,022 booths in total and various Delhi Police units, paramilitary, CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) personnel were deployed to ensure that no untoward incidents took place. "As many as 56,256 personnel were deployed for the elections. There were 40 companies of paramilitary and CAPF personnel and 20,000 Home Guards deployed. Apart from this, various Delhi Police units looked after their areas," said a senior police officer.

Senior police officers were seen patrolling their respective areas near the booths to ensure proper and smooth polling and ensuring safe voting.

The officer said that sensitive and hypersensitive booths had already been identified on parameters, including number of cases registered in the area, demographic composition, and experience during previous elections. Excessive precautionary measures were taken on these booths. "There were 573 sensitive and 197 hypersensitive premises respectively that we identified. Out of the 13,022 booths, 3,284 were declared sensitive and 1,464 hypersensitive," the officer added.
